| Abstrak | The code switching and code mixing research are research in the field of language and literary research. Code switching and code mixing usually occur in the bilingual or multilingual language situation. Bilingual situation is a situation where the speaker able to speak, understand and use two languages, meanwhile the multilingual situation is a situation where the speaker able to speak, understand, use more than two languages. <br>As the object of this research is the Indonesia novel. As one of the phenomenon in the bilingual and multilingual situation, code switching and code mixing usually occurs. As in novel “Jakarta Undercover” the writer switches the languages for many times from Indonesia into English or English to Indonesia language. The switches of those languages are occur in terms of words, phrases or even sentences which are found in the novel. Based on this phenomenon there are two problems that can be formulated, (1) types of code switching that is occurs in the novel “Jakarta Undercover” and (2) reasons why the writer switches the languages. <br>As the types of code switching, there are three types of code switching, (1) tag switching, (2) inter-sentential switching, and (3) intra-sentential switching. Based on this types of code switching, there are only two types of code switching that id found in this novel, they are inter-sentential switching and intra-sentential switching. For reasons for code switching, analyzed based on the theory of reasons for code switching by based on Grosjean (1982: 149-152) classified reasons for code switching into 10 reasons. In the novel “Jakarta Undercover” only found three from ten reasons for code switching.<br><br> |
